Dealing With “Willfully Ignorant” Pit Bull Activists On Your Facebook Pages

We’re giving you one more chance before you’re banned from the page.

FB_IMG_1457204797295You’re obviously a fan of pit bulls. Whether it’s because you’ve been brainwashed by ANY part of the $60 billion dollar per year pet care and supply industry into thinking these dogs were anything BUT purposely bred by human beings for centuries FOR the purpose of dogfighting, or you’re just going to give us more anecdotal evidence because “my pit bull is sweet and I’ve only had good experiences with them,” you choose to defend the one breed type that kills, maims and mauls more humans and animals than all dog breed types combined. The admins of this page have also had good experiences with pit bulls, until the day we did not.

FB_IMG_1456422682734I agree with you that most of the victims of pit bull attacks, their families and supporters were “ignorant” and truly “uneducated” about the history, heritage and PURPOSE of pit bull type dogs. However, there is a difference between being “ignorant” and “willfully ignorant.” Most of the supporters of BSL were ill-informed by this “pit bull propaganda machine” into believing these dogs are safe family pets if just “raised right.” Most of the supporters of BSL were ill-informed by this propaganda machine into thinking pit bulls are “just like any other dogs.” They were indeed, “ignorant” and “uneducated.”

Which brings this back to you.

13233126_1082552601804089_1027567039452473341_nYou have just commented on one of our pages created by formerly “ignorant” and “uneducated” victims, their families, friends, supporters and former pit bull owners LIKE YOURSELF. We have created these pages in an attempt to spare other families and friends of the pain and suffering we have had to endure by giving you HONEST information. Not DISHONEST information from the countless organizations and TV shows whom are OWNED, CONTROLLED, or FUNDED by dog breeders, owners, veterinarian or animal welfare groups that have a vested interest in keeping the status of pit bulls unregulated, but HONEST information from people that have nothing to gain from this position. We also understand that in sharing this HONEST information about pit bulls, we will be attacked and ridiculed by the “ignorant” defenders of this breed type like you. It is not the “ignorant,” but “willfully ignorant” that is the reason these types of dogs will continue to destroy families for many years to come. Stay with me here.

We believe in giving someone the chance to absorb this HONEST information in an ocean of DISHONEST information about pit bulls on the internet and TV, which is why we will give you ONE more comment before we ban you from this page. Frankly, we don’t have time to waste on the “willfully ignorant” anymore. There are plenty of fence sitters out there that are willing to at least READ the information we’re providing.

You get ONE more comment. If you say ANY of the following in that comment, you’re banned from the page:

-“Any dog is capable.”

-“All dogs can bite.”

-“Sorry for your loss, BUT” or “Sorry for your loss, HOWEVER”

-“You’re ignorant.”

-“Educate yourself.”

-“Back in the 70’s, 80’s it was, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.”

-“According to the NCRC, AVMA, UKC, AKC, etc….” (or any info copied and pasted from part of the $60 billion dollar per year pet care and supply industry)

-“My pit bull is sweet and never hurt a fly.”

-“Coconuts kills more people.”

-“Here’s a picture of my pit bull and child. Does it look dangerous?”

-“Pit bulls used to be nanny dogs.”

-“It’s all how you raise them.”

-“All dogs show warning signs.”

-“That source is not credible.”

-“You’re a racist.”

-“Guns, cows, people, wasps, cars, etc. kill more people.” (or any other straw man arguments)

-“Media only reports pit bull attacks.”

“It’s the owners.”

-“Pit bull is not a breed.”

-“You can’t identify a pit bull without DNA.”

-“Pit bulls pass the ATTS test.”

-“Petey was a pit bull, or Sgt. Stubby.”

-“What about all the pit bulls that save people?”

-“Dachshunds are more aggressive that pit bulls.”

-“Pit mixes are not pit bulls.”

-“What did they do to provoke it?”

-“BSL doesn’t work because it doesn’t stop all dog ‘bites.”

Acceptable comments will be:

-“Wow, I didn’t know that.”

-“I had no idea it was so bad.”

-“I will take extra precaution with my fighting breed from now on, especially around children.”

-“I will look into a break stick and how to use it.”

-“I’m so sorry for your loss.” (no BUT’S)

“We thought he was going to be a great dog. He acted like one. He was a good example of a good pit. Until he just decided to attack. He slept in our bed and everything. We never left the kids alone with him. They were never mean to him. We had 5 other dogs including another female pit and they never fought.
It’s NOT the way they are raised. Our dog was well loved and raised. He obeyed all commands and never showed any aggression. These myths almost cost my sons life. How many more people have to get hurt because of a lie?”
Jennifer Arp

“The backdoor was open and suddenly we heard people screaming from outside. Bexar, with zero warning, had lunged at Gavin, and his jaws were clamped down on Gavin’s face, right in front of everyone. Let me point out that there were 8 people within arms reach of Gavin when Bexar attacked. This is a critical point, because I have heard from many people about this, who say that they would never leave their children “alone” with “any” dog. Gavin was far from being alone when this attack happened. Even 4 grown men were unable to pry Bexar’s jaws off of Gavin’s head. Greg ran out and was finally able to get Bexar to release, saving Gavin’s life.”
Maggie Bain

“My brother had raised many pit bulls and one particularly captured our hearts…He was the sweetest well mannered gentle dog I had ever seen…I was always told the aggressive ones were because they were trained to fight and it was all in how they were raised….and if u got them from puppies that was the best way to raise any dog…Both of the dogs who attacked were brought home as puppies and picked out by Kara…These dogs never displayed any people aggression. ..Always sat dutifully by her side, watched her have tea parties, sat by her side when she was sick, thought they were lap dogs and liked to snuggle…..no warnings, no snapping, nogrowling…….just snapped!”
Roxanne Hartrich

“Children are blessings from God. Dogs are animals, I understand peoples love for animals and a lot of people choose or may not be able to have children so have these dogs and treat them as their own kids. They will always be animals, not children. For those who choose the dangerous breeds please stop and think, is it worth taking the chance on it turning and killing our children and family members?”
Johnna Harvard

“Our son was brutally killed by our pet pit bull of 8 years…On April 24, 2013 we lost both our beautiful son Beau and our family dog, affectionately known as Kissy Face. Our dog had been part of our family for 8 years and lived up to her name, for she was eager to overload everyone with kisses. Oh, she was such a very loving and family oriented dog. Kissy Face had been around since her birth on November 22, 2005.
Then with no warning, matters changed dramatically and our world was irrevocably altered. Shortly after Beau’s 2nd birthday, I made a quick trip to the restroom. Just a few minutes later I returned to find my son lying in a pool of his own blood.”
Angela Rutledge

“Her right shoulder was dislocated in a backward fashion, half her right face was missing, as well as part of her right neck, and most of her right ear. My mother had bite marks all over her face, neck, and scalp. Her vocal box was ripped, that’s why my niece only heard one yell. Her C1 & C2 were fractured; part of her spinal cord was ripped from her lifeless body. She fought and fought. She suffered from a horrific, sustained, vicious and violent attack at the jaws of a completely unpredictable breed of dog. My mother’s autopsy report shows her wounds to be consistent with defending her grandchild. The report states that my mother was defending her grandchild. My mother is a hero. She saved my nephew’s life.”

American Pit Bull Terrier

~snip~

The American Pit Bull Terrier is, like all the ‘bully’ breeds, one of this group of descendants of the British ‘bull and terrier’ type fighting bulldogs. Once imported into the United States, it was bred up to be bigger again, and again used in baiting animals and in dogfighting. The American Kennel Club (founded 1884) was unwilling to register these fighting dogs, so in 1898 the United Kennel Club was founded specifically to register working pit-fighting dogs and to promote dogfighting. In order to be registered, a dog had to first win three pit fights. The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) became a ‘breed’. As dogfighting declined in popularity in the 1930s and 1940s, Colby (the most famous and prolific breeder of these dogs) began to search for a new market and began promoting the APBT as family pets. This despite the fact that his breeding lines included child killers.

  1. Willful ignorance exactly describes it. I lost a friend after I told her NOT to have a recently rescued APBT around her grandkids, sending her an email with links to plenty of information and evidence which she didn’t even bother to read, instead calling ME an ‘animal hater’. Pit advocates just aren’t right in the head. There is no getting through to these people, sometimes even after they themselves have been mauled.

  2. As much as its a pity your child got mauled. Look in the mirror you moron. Its your fault. You left an animal alone with your child. Many own pitbulls that they have around children their entire lives with no issue. Its YOUR fault. Ban me all you want. You’re jusy looking or grasping rather for an excuse for you owning an animal you don’t have the capacity to own. YOUR FAULT. Not the dogs.

  3. Oh…they love their dogs…they should be banned from our country. Other countries do it. Mine scared me so I got rid of her…she never showed any aggression towards me and was actually quite affectionate. Just when she would yawn I’d cringe .my normal dogs are Labrador retrievers.

  4. I would never downplay an attack by blaming the victim. Any dog that kills/attacks should instantly be killed themselves.

I’m against what I call, “blind and frivolous pit bull advocacy.” I hate those usual arguments. It’s not how they’re raised. It’s bred in them to not show aggression. It’s bred into them to not recognize submissive behavior. Plus, how come dogs rescued from severe abuse or neglect situations, a lot of times end up living their lives totally fine. If it was how they were raises, they’d be monsters with no chance of living a normal life.

Now, I love my pittie. I babysit a 2 year old, and I keep my dog totally away for the most part when he is over. Of course they’re brief interactions have always been fine. But I don’t give my dog the chance to fail. I won’t set her up for failure. Knowing what the breed is capable of, and acting accordingly, is ideal in preventing a tragedy

    • Zero Margin of Error Rule

On Father’s Day, another tirade unfolded on Jeff’s timeline. In this case, the “So sorry for your loss … BUT” post related to the perfect dog owner concept or what DogsBite calls the “zero margin of error” rule for pit bull owners. If only Susan had “exactly” followed the rules set forth by the boy’s parents, Dax would still be alive. Susan was imperfect on March 6th and broke the “zero margin of error” rule for pit bull owners by carrying Dax outside while letting the dogs into the run.

If there had been two poodles in the run that day instead of pit bulls, would the result have been the same?

Many pit bull owners — particularly those duped by the myth, “It’s all how you raise them” — are unaware of this rule until it is too late. The margin of error between humans and normal dog breeds is a vast meadow. Humans and dogs can make small, medium and large errors within this area without significant repercussions. Pit bull owners, however, have “zero margin of error” — one simple error or oversight can result in a catastrophic or fatal pit bull mauling.

Perfect dog owners are similar to perfect parents — both are nonexistent. There are strengths and weaknesses in each role, even average and great, but never perfection. Susan did not leave this child unattended on that day, which was the other option, to leave Dax in a room in the house alone while the dogs took a bathroom break. Zealous pit bull advocates would have the public believe that perfect dog owners and the “zero margin of error” rule are reasonable.

Only pit bull experts, a selection of zealous pit bull owners and dogfighters — real knowers of the breed — understand the “zero margin of error” rule. The broader category of pit bull owners, such as what Susan falls within, is either in denial of the rule or has no idea of its existence. Duped by the pervasive myth, “It’s all how you raise them,” along with similar myths, “It’s the owner” and “All dogs are the same,” how would the average pit bull owner even know about this rule?

  5. I support BSL and am thankful that it exists where I live. I have had numerous arguments concerning the American pit bull / Staffordshire bull terrier breed. The account of your son’s passing is heart wrenching. I am very sorry for your loss.
The psychology of those who advocate for the breed is akin to fanaticism; “fanatics are people who indulge in a heady, intoxicating and toxic concoction of self-affirming, know-it-all confidence that they have unique access to absolute truths, truths so perfect that they have to impose them on everyone.” ~ Jeremy E Sherman Ph.D.

  6. Lmao I cannot believe your list of comments you will be banned for!!! Why, because they are the actual truth and they prove you are uneducated still??!! Then yours are ONLY backed up by YOU!!!! The only links they have to be “facts” are only published to your own site. I feel so bad for the many people on here that you are trying to scare so they follow your pit bulls and bully breeds must die cult, because they can’t think for themselves!

  7. It honestly sounds like you have no interest in the argument at all other than advocating for the death of the animal to retaliate at for you’re son’s death, to which I am sorry for your loss. There’s no but’s, if’s or and’s. There is only this, pitbuls are not an aggressive breed. However, there are many whom have been raised aggressive because of dog fighting rinks and other outrageous acts. What I wanted to say to you is this, the only way you’re going to get people to listen to your message is if you don’t first insult them, because that will only keep them away from you and stop listening.

  8. I am a veterinary technician – almost 20 years (give or take) in the field. I – until just recently – agreed with the stance “all in how you raise them”. It’s bullshit. Utter nonsense. It is not if – only when the dog decides to be a dog and snap at a child or adult. The difference being this breeds capability for utter destruction & ability to kill with said “snap/warning/etc.”. All. Dogs. Bite. But NONE have the bite force of a Staff/pit bull. Rottweillers coming in second with their bite force. (I had a Rottweiler growing up. He was euthanized after a 14 y.o child kicked him in the face when he growled bc he had a bone. The dog was tied up & away from everyone bc we knew he was dangerous with food or treats. The child hopped our fence – kicked the dog – the attack was so severe he almost lost his arm & has a steel plate in his arm for the rest of his life. I was 7 when this happened & saw it all.)

I would NEVER have a “pibble” as I affectionately call them – in my house. Period. And I actually adore the breed, from a distance. Never had any fear in restraint while working. And only ever encountered a truly vicious pit bull while working 1x – whereas I have been attacked, bitten, and backed up by several other breeds. I have a scar from chin to collar bone from a shiba inu. Bitten on the thigh by a rottweiller (saved by cargo pants and a giant cell phone in my pocket. Countless chihuahua & dachshund bites as well as shitzu & Lhasas.

My father raised pits & actually bred chow/pit mixes. Guess for why. Mhm. Fighting. Grizz was a terror inducing dog. Black block headed beast. He would be ok one minute and make your blood run cold the next w just a look. Luckily I was never with him when he would have his “moments” and rarely saw my dad growing up & the dog was a yard dog – in his own pen and almost always chained. But I loved all my dad’s dogs and only afraid of Grizz.

I don’t understand how people have elevated dogs to the status that they are now in. Even though I understand a lot of people incapable or unwilling to have children – using animals to fill that void & also understanding the love you can have for an animal… After all I have pretty much revolved my entire life to help animals and advocate for their well being in the medical field. It is as if people have forgotten that dogs will do dog things … Are Shocked when they bite – but…dogs do not have hands or voices to say hey – back away… Only mouths to warn/snap/bite. When a dog with the strongest bite force does this – how is it ok to say or attack the owner of a dog bred to not warn or recognize submissive (animal or human) behaviour – when that animal fatally attacks a person or child?? I am baffled and grief stricken.

Not in my house. Not near my children. My prayers for you and your family. Thank you for this site. My heart is shattered actually reading up on the statistical fatalities from pit bull attacks. I am no longer ignorant. Heart sick like you have NO idea. But. Smarter nonetheless.
